Point Defiance, Again…Again

I wasn’t super happy with the photos from yesterday.

They’re not right; something about the color, I shot in JPEG, it’s a crop sensor camera, the light wasn’t right…any number of things that I want to blame other than “I take bad pictures”.

Part of me just wants to go back and back again until I have the perfect pictures then casually post those on my blog because I did it right the first time, obviously. That’s silly (and dishonest) but this time in particular it felt like I could do better. I went back this morning with a different camera and lens setup.

Naturally, they’re still not right.

My goal in the last few months - after being super frustrated with my photos from Vancouver in January and Vienna in February - is to just practice trying to communicate a sense of place. How it feels and smells and sounds. I am not trying to “tell a story” or find patterns or create art. Just being okay with a photograph being a photograph. I want to travel and enjoy being in those places, that’s the deeper thing. My trips aren’t frustrating (usually), why should the photos be after the fact?

Also, here are four photos from yesterday that I actually really like. It was a nice walk.
