Mosquito Pass
We are lucky to own two fantastic vehicles - an 09 Toyota Tundra for towing and an 06 Lexus LX470 for everything else.
The Lexus is relatively recent purchase. Since getting it, it’s had some work:
- Replaced the stock AHC system with a standard suspension setup - Icon dual rate springs, ARB torsion bars, SPC adjustable upper control arms.
- Added an ARB air locker in the rear powered by an ARB Twin Compressor under the hood.
- A new radiator; the old one was fine, it just a werid color and they’re trivial to replace.
In any case, I recently had an opportunity to take it up to London Mine on Mosquito Pass near Alma, Colorado. It was the first time I’d seriously taken it off the beaten path.

The trail up is ranked as “moderate”, which it deserves. Mostly baby head boulders, some water, and a few switchbacks. The tires were aired down and I had it center locked on the way up and center locked + 4L on the way down. It was a good time.
Also, I used my Sony A7IV for these photos. I typically only use the Sony for scanning film…I will say, it’s very nice to preview exposure when shooting landscapes.
