Two Weeks, Part 19
October 01 to 15
By number of photos taken I’m on a steep downward trend. It’s heavy boredom and more than a little bit of depression. It’s fine.
I’ve been reading a lot recently and that’s been good. In the last two weeks:
- The Technician by Neal Asher. Slowly working through the rest of his Polity universe stuff.
- Halcyon Years by Alastair Reynolds. I think the Prefect Dreyfus books did this “sci fi murder mystery” thing better. Not that it was bad by any stretch. The Dagger in Vichy is on my list.
- Replay by Ken Grimwood. Couldn’t put it down!
- Dark Intelligence and War Factory by Neal Asher. I just started the third book in this trilogy (Infinity Engine). Also not his strongest - the Cormac novels were better in general - but I’m still having a lot of fun with this universe and am looking forward to the Spatterjay trilogy.
- Xeelee Omnibus by Stephen Baxter…still. I read this when I’m waiting on library books to be available via Libby. So a few chapters here and there. I’m into it, it’s been good so far, I’m just more into Asher’s style right now. I’ll get there.
I also picked up physical copies of The Odyssey (the Emily Wilson translation) and The Iliad (Robert Fagles). I started reading Scott’s Waverly and realized that I am just so unprepared for any kind of classic literature. I remember reading some in high school but…it’s time to catch up.
I also have a strong desire to play a racing game. Maybe I’ll pick up Gran Turismo 7. I’m sure that won’t put a dent in my reading time.
