Two Weeks, Part 14
June 16 to 31
It’s been a quiet ten days or so since I got back from Copenhagen. I’ve had a super tough time with the jet lag on this go around. Up at 4am, dead tired by noon. Nice light in the mornings though!
I’ve been totally off of YouTube (my last social media/brain drain holdout) since July 12. I was never on Shorts (ugh) but I do have a couple dozen channels I enjoy watching and would occasionally get sucked into a rabbit hole. No more!
Being off of YouTube has been wild already. It took a week or so for the itch to stop (like a fucking drug) and maybe it’s in my head but I feel like my attention span is coming back. I’ve plowed through three (almost four!) books, a full anime series (Blue Eye Samurai), and a handful of movies.
I think many words have been typed about this: YouTube the platform is antagonistic to its users. It’s entire goal is more. More content, more engagement, more ads, more money. Your attention is the product. I don’t know if books or movies or TV are “more legitimate” forms of entertainment than 8 to 20 minute YouTube videos…but at least books aren’t constantly shifting their words around to figure out how to make the next sentence more addictive. (Sorry…engaging.)
Anyway, I spent like three hours one morning this week trying to nail down a photo or two of trees. Maybe I should bring a GoPro and monetize it.
