Camping In The Rain

We took our RV down to Cape Lookout State Park near Tillamook, Oregon for a few nights.

It rained, of course it rained. Heavy, biblical rain for 10-12 hours overnight.

The next day we went up to Cape Meares to see The Views :tm:.

It was still pretty rainy but otherwise pleasant. We stopped in at Blue Heron for snacks, The Fish Peddler (in Bay City) for lunch, and the Tillamook creamery for dessert. A mini food tour. The partly cloudy weather and persistent fog made for interesting light.

At some point we landed back at camp but I went out later to get some photos in the fading light. I’m trying an FTZ adapter so I can use the 24-50 2.8 G Sony lens on my Nikon Zf. Other than some aggressive barrel distortion and vignette at the wide end it’s a great experience. I wish Nikon had this lens natively.

The next morning we loaded up the RV and headed back home…with a quick stop at Oswald West State Park north of Manzanita.

The old growth on this part of the coast is insanely cool. It looks like something out of Jurassic Park. I took a color photo, even.

It was a quick weekend to a neat place. We’ve camped at Cape Lookout two or three times and we always get rained on and it’s great. On the photo front I’ll probably keep this Nikon Zf/Sony 24-50 combo for family events and things that need autofocus. (Surely there’s a way to apply Sony’s RAW corrections in Capture One…the distortion is bad.) I spent most of the weekend wishing I had brought my MP and a 28mm. Alas!
